A page with two commercial photographs of Pompei, one of them trimmed and laid over the other, visited by Alexandra, Princess of Wales and her daughters Princess Victoria and Princess Maud. The captions are written in red ink by Alexandra, Princess of Wales: 'Sat 1st April. Paid our second more interesting visit to Pompeii - where all our party came again with us also Mr Rofle [illegible] toured a great number of new streets and houses exacavated. Met dear George W of Cumberland who was staying at Naples. He dined and spent the evening on board the yacht where we had a Neapolitan [feast?] of [illegible] which we all enjoyed very much'.
Rolfe was Eustace Neville Rolfe (1845-1908) was Consular General for south Italy, dying in Naples. He wrote a book about Pompeii which was published in 1888 (RCIN 1037372).
