A page of 7 photographs and 2 postcards of the beginning of the Mediterranean cruise by Queen Alexandra when Princess of Wales and her daughters Princess Victoria and Princess Maud, Thursday 16 March, at Marseilles. The postcards are photographic reproductions of Marseilles harbour and port. The photographs feature (from left to right, clockwise): view of the deck of RY Osborne II with sailors, looking at Marseilles; Commander Charles Eustace Anson (b.1860) and Captain Charles Windham (1851-1916); RY Osborne II; a French battleship Marcius [sic?] off Hyeres, near Marseilles; 'The Doctor', Alfred G Delmege and Richard A G W Stapleton Cotton (b.1874); a general view of the crew on RY Osborne II; Charlotte Knollys (1835-1930), Dr Delmege and Admiral Stephenson (1842-1919).
The photographs are captioned by Queen Alexandra, in red ink, can be roughly transcribed as follows: 'Arrival at Marseilles Thursday March 16th at 10.50am. Received by Mr G[illegible] our Cousel general...The Osborne for Hyeres when we anchored at night - fine passage. the Captain Windham and Commander Anson'. 'First Lieut. Davy, Second Lieut Cotton. Third Lieut Stavely, Doctor Delmege. Chief Engineer Babb. Paymaster Cooper'. The other captions refer to the people in the photographs.
