Photograph of the Royal Palace of Ulriksdal, that is situated to the north of Stockholm. The building stands on the banks of the Edsviken in the Solna Municipality of Sweden and comprises three storeys with a domed tower in the centre of the roof. It consists of several wings that flank the main building with further extensions in the background. Trees stand in the foreground.
The Palace was originally built as a private retreat and was designed by the architect Hans Jacob Kristler in the early 1640's. Queen Hedvig Eleonora of Sweden purchased the Palace in 1669 where it was owned by subsequent generations of the Swedish Royal Family. The last Royal occupants of the Palace were King Gustav VI Adolf (1882-1973) and Queen Louise, neé Mountbatten (1889-1965). Today, the Palace is home to the Swedish branch of the World Wide Wildlife Fund.Provenance
