Photograph of the central pool within the Court of the Myrtles in the Alhambra Palace, Granada, Spain. To the right of the foreground stands a rectangular pool bordered by myrtle bushes that have been cut down. On the left and under a portico, stands a large archway which leads to an obscured entrance way. Three smaller windows appear above the arch. The portico that projects from the arch features marble pillars that support a series of smaller arches above which are Arabesque designs. A small dome like structure is in the centre of a sloping, tiled roof and part of the main body of the Palace can be seen in the background.
The court was so named due to the green myrtle bushes that grow on either side of the pool. The pool stands to the west of the Court of the Lions within the Alhambra Palace. To the north of the Court of the Myrtles is the Comares Palace which formed part of the Royal residence.Provenance
