Photographic reproduction of a painting or watercolour with a group of soldiers including General Williams (1800-83), some people are dying from hunger or cholera; valley and town of Kars, northest Turkey, below. The siege of Kars took place during the Crimean War, it surrendered to the Russians in November 1855
