Photograph of the Hawa Mahal in Jaipur, India. The Hawa Mahal stands in the centre right of the background in front of which is a temporary archway on which is written 'Long Live the King Emperor'. In the foreground, people populate a busy street. The Hawa Mahal is a palace constructed at the end of the 18th century by Sawai Pratap Singh. Its façade, visible in this photograph, is 50 feet in height and features over 900 ornamental windows from which the female members of the Royal Household could watch life on the streets below without being observed themselves.
