Photograph of Nicholas II, Emperor of Russia (1868-1918) greeting Queen Alexandra (1844-1925) as she boards a yacht in the Bay of Reval. Queen Alexandra is walking up the stairs at the side of the yacht, wearing a hat and a fur scarf and carrying a box camera. Nicholas II stands opposite her, his back to the camera. There is a tug boat in the water to the left and the side of the yacht can be seen to the right. In June 1908 King Edward VII and Nicholas II, Emperor of Russia met in the Bay of Reval, now Tallinn. As well as a family gathering the meeting served an important diplomatic purpose in the aftermath of the 1907 Anglo-Russian Entente, which settled colonial disputes and instigated the Triple Entente.
