Photograph of Nicholas II, Emperor of Russia (1868-1918) sitting on board a small tug boat in the waters of the Bay of Reval. He is wearing naval uniform and a bearskin hat and is holding a pair of gloves. A number of naval officers sit opposite him and two stand behind him. A naval officer wearing a bicorn hat is standing on the gangway to the right. In June 1908 King Edward VII and Nicholas II, Emperor of Russia met in the Bay of Reval, now Tallinn. As well as a family gathering the meeting served an important diplomatic purpose in the aftermath of the 1907 Anglo-Russian Entente, which settled colonial disputes and instigated the Triple Entente.
