Photograph of part of a procession on Exhibition Road, South Kensington, with a four-horse drawn carriage travelling along, led by two Palace Attendants on horseback (the carriage may contain Queen Victoria), followed by Life Guards on horseback; in the distance more carriages following. Next to the 'Queen Anne' style building (no. 29, now the Jamaican High Commission, built in 1876) is a sign for the Royal School of Art Needlework (the building is no longer there). Beyond is an avenue of trees, which leads to Kensington Gardens. The view is taken from near the corner leading to Princes Gardens. The Imperial Institute was founded in 1886/7 in the aftermath of the Colonial and Indian Exhibition of 1886 and designed by TE Collcutt but it was never successful and was finally demolished in the early 1960s to make way for Imperial College.
