Photograph of Nasir al-Din Shah Qajar, Shah of Persia (modern-day Iran); full-length portrait, wearing a sword on his left side and resting his right arm on the back of a chair. Annotated on verso: Shah of / Persia 1873.
This photograph was probably taken during the Shah's visit to Britain in 1873, when he visited Queen Victoria. He was the first Persian ruler to ever visit Britain. See RCINs 2915329, 2915331 and 2915332 for other photographic portraits of the Shah, and RCIN 403888 for an enamel on porcelain copy of a photograph of the same sitter.
