-
A hand-coloured photograph of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar, King of Persia (modern-day Iran) from 1848 to 1896 when he was assassinated. It is a full-length portrait, seated, in which the Shah is dressed in military uniform with a blue sash over a braided gold one, overlaid with a jewelled sash and the star of the Order of the Garter, given to him by Queen Victoria in 1873. This occurred during his tour of Europe, and he was the first modern King of Persia to visit Britain. He was also interested in photography.
