Photograph of a full length portrait of Guillaume Geefs standing, facing slightly to the left. He holds a hat in his right hand and rests his left hand on the back of a chair. A coat is placed on the chair.
Geefs was one of seven brothers in a family of Belgian sculptors. Two of his brothers, Joseph and Jean, were awarded the Prix de Rome in 1836 and 1846 respectively. There are a number of sculptures by Jean and Guillaume Geefs in the Royal Collection. Guillaume Geefs was Court Sculptor to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's uncle, King Leopold I of the Belgians. The photograph shows Guillaume Geefs, but was incorrectly labelled as being that of Jean Geefs, Guillaume's younger sibling.Provenance
