-
A photograph of Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale and Princess Mary of Teck, taken to commemorate their engagement on 3 December 1891. It is a full-length portrait, with Prince Albert Victor perched on a table next to Princess Mary, in a conservatory filled with ferns and palm trees. This was at Luton Hoo, a country house in Bedfordshire, which was the residence of the Danish Ambassador.
Unfortunately Prince Albert Victor died on 14 January 1892 of pneumonia at Sandringham House, just as discussion for his forthcoming marriage and his appointment as Viceroy of Ireland was under way. Eventually, Princess Mary married instead his brother Prince George, Duke of York, who later became King George V. -
