Photograph of Frederick Vyner; head and shoulders, facing front and looking at the camera, wearing a hussars uniform, oval vignette.
Frederick Vyner was the son of Lady Mary Vyner. While on a Grand Tour at the age of 23, Frederick and other British and Italian tourists were captured and held hostage by a group of brigands while travelling through mountains just outside of Athens; the majority of the male hostages were later murdered in what later became known as the Dilessi Massacre. -
