Photograph of the Hon. Robert Henry Meade (1835-1898), a civil servant who was the Groom of the Bedchamber to The Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII. Meade, on the recommendation of Lord Dufferin, accompanied the Prince of Wales on his 'Eastern Tour' in 1862. Meade had previously been in Syria, with Dufferin, as part of a Commission looking into the aftermath of the 1860 massacres in the region. The photograph shows the Hon. Robert Henry Meade seated by a small table, reading a book.
