George was born about 1821 in Wimbledon, entered service of the Queen as Helper in March 1845; Postillion in 1862; the Queen's Postillion in 1865 and finally Head Coachman. In that time he received the Victoria Faithful Service Medal in 1873. He died on 1 May 1895 at Surrey Cottages, East Cowes, Isle of Wight. His son Samuel Bourner (d.1896) was also in service as Queen's Postillion. -
