Carte-de-visite photograph of Francis Clarke, Highland Attendant, who is standing, facing camera, with legs crossed, right arm resting on a table (beside a small dog), left arm at his side, wearing Highland Dress. The dog is possibly Rochie, a curly-haired terrier with cream tuxedo chest patch.
Francis was born at Belmore, Aberdarder, on 1 September 1841; he entered service as Highland Attendant in 1870 and died at Buckingham Palace on 7 July 1895 and was buried at Braemar. He was the nephew of John Brown, the famous Highland Attendant and Personal Servant to Queen Victoria. -
