Francis was born at Belmore, Aberdarder, on 1 September 1841; he entered service as Highland Attendant in 1870 and died at Buckingham Palace on 7 July 1895 and was buried at Braemar. He was the nephew of John Brown, the famous Highland Attendant and Personal Servant to Queen Victoria.
