Carte de visit portrait of Evan (or Euan?) Macdonald, Coachman for the Royal Household at Claremont in 1871. Standing with legs crossed, leaning on a pedestal, upon which is placed his top hat, holding a cane in his right hand.
Claremont is a late 16th century house, that was a royal residence between 1816 and 1900. Queen Victoria lent the house to the exiled French King Louis-Philippe and his family after the revolutions of 1848. Afterwards the house was given to Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany, on his marriage to Prince Helena of Waldeck and Pyrmont, in 1882. -
