On the right of the scene is a wooden desk, on which she rests her arms. Her fair hair is worn down and is decorated with a pale coloured ribbon headband. She is wearing a pendant on a black ribbon around her neck. She is wearing a short-sleeved pale coloured dress, tied at the waist with a silk ribbon sash and trimmed with tiers of gathered lace on the skirt and the sleeves.
Alix was the daughter of Princess Alice, Grand Duchess of Hesse and Grand Duke Louis IV of Hesse. In 1894 Alix was received into the Russian Orthodox church and took the name Alexandra Feodorovna. Later the same year she married Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and the couple had five children.Provenance
