Louise Philippe was the eldest of the two sons of Prince Ferdinand-Philippe, Duc d'Orléans and Helene of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. In 1864 he married his first cousin, Princess Marie Isabelle d'Orléans and the couple had eight children.
