Carte-de-visit head and shoulders photograph of Duke Georg of Mecklenburg Strelitz, in a vignette format. The subject is shown in three quarter view facing towards the right of the image, with his head turned towards the left of the image. He is wearing the military uniform of General in the Russian Army, adorned with prominent braided epaulettes and a double row of gilt buttons up the front.
He was the second son of Grand Duke Georg of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and his wife Grand Duchess Catherine Mikhailovna of Russia.
In 1851 he married the Russian Grand Duchess Yekaterina Mikhaylovna and moved to Russia.Provenance
