Archduke Rainer was the son of Archduke Rainer Joseph of Austria and Princess Elisabeth of Savoy. In 1852, he married his cousin Archduchess Maria Caroline of Austria, daughter of Archduke Charles, Duke of Teschen. The marriage remained childless. Archduke Rainer was a General in the Imperial Army, and very interested in art and science.Provenance
