Carte-de-visite photograph of Princess Leopoldina of Brazil, second daughter of the Emperor Pedro II of Brazil. The portrait is in a vignette format and shows a three quarter view of the sitter facing towards the left of the image. The Princess is wearing a dark coloured silk gown with a buttoned bodice. Her hair is arranged in a centre parting and pulled back into a chignon. She is wearing a lace collar, drop earrings and a locket.
In 1864 Leopoldina married Prince Ludwig August of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and they proceeded to have four sons. She died in 1871 from typhoid fever at the age of 23.Provenance
