Carte-de-visite depicting a full-length double portrait of Alexander, Tsesarevich of Russia (1845-94), later Alexander III, Emperor of Russia, and the Grand Duchess Maria Feodorovna, Tsesarevna of Russia (1847-1928) in front of a painted backdrop. The backdrop depicts an indoor scene and includes a painted bust on the right of the photograph. The Tsesarevich stands on the left of the photograph, facing three-quarters left. He holds a cane in his right hand and rests his left hand on the back of a chair. His left knee rests on the edge of the chair. The Tsesarevna stands next to him, facing the viewer. She rests both hands on the back of the chair, with her left hand crossed over her right. Maria Feodorovna was previously engaged to the older brother of Alexander, Tsesarevich Nicholas Alexandrovich.
