Princess Thyra of Denmark (1853-1933), is seated facing the viewer, holding a small dog; the Grand Duchess Maria Feodorovna, Tsesarevna of Russia (1847-1928) is seated behind Princess Thyra and faces the viewer. Her left arm rests on the shoulders of her sister Alexandra, Princess of Wales (1844-1925), who stands facing the viewer.
