Carte-de-visite of Albert Edward, the Prince of Wales (1841-1910), later Edward VII, and the Princess of Wales (1844-1925), later Queen Alexandra, with their four eldest children. The Prince of Wales is standing on the right of the photograph, facing three-quarters left. He is wearing a kilt and holds a cap and a walking stick in his left hand. Prince Albert Victor (1864-92) is standing in front of his father, facing three quarters left. Princess Louise (1867-1931) is standing in between her mother and Prince Albert Victor, facing three-quarters left. She is wearing a bonnet and rests her right hand on Princess Alexandra's left shoulder. Princess Alexandra is seated, facing the viewer. She is holding Princess Victoria (1868-1935) on her lap. Prince George (1865-1936) is standing on the left of the photograph, facing the viewer. He is resting his left hand on his mother's right shoulder. Prince Albert Victor and Prince George are both wearing Scottish Highland dress. Prince Albert Edward was the first son and second child of the nine children of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and the first heir born to a reigning sovereign since 1762. He married Princess Alexandra of Denmark on 10 March 1863. Their eldest son Prince Albert Victor was born at Frogmore on 8 January 1964. He died of pneumonia at Sandringham on 14 January 1892 and his younger brother Prince George succeeded their father as George V in 1910.
