Carte-de-visite depicting a family group portrait of Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein (1831-1917), Princess Helena (1846-1923), and Prince Christian Victor (1867-1900). Prince Christian is seated on the right of the photograph, looking down at his son. He is holding Prince Christian Victor on his right knee. Princess Helena is standing on the left of the photograph, and also looks down at Prince Christian Victor. The third daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Princess Helena married the impoverished German Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein in 1866. Their eldest son Prince Christian Victor was born at Windsor Castle and was known as Christle by his family. Whilst serving in the Boer War he contracted malaria and died of enteric fever in Pretoria in October 1900.
