Carte-de-visite depicting a full-length double portrait of Princess Helena (1846-1923) and Prince Christian Victor of Schleswig-Holstein (1867-1900). Princess Helena is seated and looking down at her son. She is wearing a dark-coloured dress and holds Prince Christian Victor on her lap. Princess Helena was the third daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. Her eldest son Prince Christian Victor was born at Windsor Castle and was known as Christle by his family. Whilst serving in the Boer War he contracted malaria and died of enteric fever in Pretoria in October 1900.
