Carte-de-visite of the Princess of Wales (1844-1925), later Queen Alexandra, and her sons, Prince Albert Victor (1864-92) and Prince George (1865-1936) in the grounds of Balmoral. The Princess of Wales is seated and facing the viewer, wearing a feathered hat. She is holding Prince George on her lap. Prince Albert Victor is standing next to his mother, on the right of the photograph. He is facing three-quarters right and also wears a hat. Born at Frogmore on 8 January 1864, Prince Albert Victor was the eldest son of the Prince and Princess of Wales, and a grandson of Queen Victoria. He died of pneumonia at Sandringham on 14 January 1892, and his younger brother Prince George succeeded their father as George V in 1910.
