Carte-de-visite depicting a full-length portrait of Ernest Augustus, Crown Prince of Hanover. He is standing in between a chair and a writing desk with books on, facing the viewer. He is wearing a military uniform, possibly a Colonel's uniform of the British Army. He is holding a military headdress in his right hand, whilst his left hand rests on top of a sword by his left side. A curtain is hanging behind the writing desk. Ernest Augustus was the son of George V and Queen Marie of Hanover, and the great-grandson of George III of the United Kingdom. He became the Crown Prince of Hanover in November 1851. In 1878 he married Princess Thyra of Denmark, a sister of the Princess of Wales, later Queen Alexandra.
