Prabhu Narayan Singh, Maharajah of Benares, presents an album to Queen Victoria [Album: Photographic Portraits vol. 6/64 1888-1893] c. 1884-90
-
Composite photograph of Queen Victoria (1819-1901) and Prabhu Narayan Singh, Maharajah of Benares (1855-1931). The Maharajah presents Queen Victoria with a photograph album. The print is inspired by an earlier composite photograph which depicts the Maharaja's predecessor, Ishwari Prasad Narayan Singh (1822-89) presenting a book to Queen Victoria (see RCIN 1053105).
The photograph appears to have been made with at least three different negatives - The Queen, the presenter holding the album, and the background. The work has then been re-photographed to create a new negative, and the resulting print has been overpainted. The photograph may have been removed from the album depicted in the photograph before its insertion into the present album.Provenance
