Unknown Person
The Queen of Siam and children 1889
-
Photograph showing full length portrait of the Queen of Siam (now Thailand) with two children. She is seated and looking directly at the camera. On her right sits a very young child in a tartan dress and on her left, an older child, who appears to be a boy. Both children wear hats.
King Chulalongkorn (1853-1910) of Thailand had 92 wives and 77 children. Four of the wives were known as 'Queen' but a portrait of only one of them was sent to Queen Victoria. It is thought that this photograph may be of Queen Sawang (1862-1955), with two of their eight children, but it is not certain.
