Khan became Persian ambassador to Queen Victoria following the Anglo-Persian War (1856-7). The Queen first received him at Buckingham Palace on 20th March 1857, writing in her journal: “We received Ferukh Khan, a fine, tall man, with the distinctive Persians cut of countenance, wearing high sheep skin cap, & an open Kaftan of fine Cashmere. He was accompanied by 4 attendants & Capt; Squill of the E. Indian Navy, who acts as his interpreter.” He dined with her three days later, when she commented that the ambassador appeared ill but that he was delighted with his reception in England. Khan took leave of Queen Victoria at Windsor Castle on 21st December 1857.
