  • Photograph of the Chinese Empress Wanrong, who was married to the last Chinese Emperor, Puyi. She appears in a half length portrait and faces three-quarters to the right and wears a headdress and silken gown. The photograph is mounted on card bordered with Chinese characters or hanzi.

    This portrait of Empress Wanrong was probably taken to mark her marriage to Emperor Puyi in October 1922 in the Imperial City of Beijing.   

    Provenance

    One of a group of photographs presented to King George V, Queen Mary and Prince George by the sitter's husband, Emperor Puyi, in 1930
