An almost full length portrait of Princess Louise in the 18th century dress she wore at a Fancy Ball at Claremont in February 1865. She stands almost profile left, holding an open fan. Her hair is powdered and in ringlets. Her dress is trimmed with lace that had belonged to Queen Victoria, and a necklace.
This photograph is a copy of the original albumen print, made in carbon which is a process that is less susceptible to light damage. The original photograph had faded so a carbon copy was made and glued over it.
