Photographic portrait of Princess Louise standing profile left in the dress she wore at her Confirmation. The dress has long sleeves and a high neckline, and is trimmed with fur. She holds a book (prayerbook or Bible?) in her hands.
Princess Louise was confirmed on Saturday 21 January 1865 at St Mildred's Church, Whippingham on the Isle of Wight. However these portraits were taken at Windsor Castle, on 7 March 1865. This photograph is a copy of the original albumen print, made in carbon which is a process that is less susceptible to light damage. The original photograph had faded so a carbon copy was made and glued over it.Provenance
From an album of portrait photographs of royal children acquired by Queen Victoria (1819-1901)
