Photograph of a full length double portrait of Queen Victoria (1819-1901) and Princess Beatrice (1857-1944). Queen Victoria is seated, facing slightly to right, with Princess Beatrice seated on her lap. Queen Victoria looks at the princess, who looks towards the camera.
Queen Victoria is pictured with Princess Beatrice, then aged three, her fifth daughter and last of nine children. Mayall also took photographs of other members of the Royal Family, many of which were published as cartes-de-visite. These were popular as their small format and relative cheapness meant that the general public could, for the first time, afford to buy royal portraits for their own homes.Provenance
