Flemish verdure tapestry depicting a landscape with a bridge surrounded by trees and foliage, with a border of flowers and strapwork.
Verdures, or "Forest Work" tapestries were by far the most popular woven wall hangings in Scotland, judging by the numbers and fragments that have survived. Although most tapestry centres appear to have made them in response to popular demand, verdures such as these without marks are usually ascribed to the town of Oudenaarde, west of Brussels.
