Basket-hilted Broadsword (Claidheamh mòr) 1770 - 1830

Basket-hilted broadsword with British copper hilt and domed shaped pommel and tang button with four radial flutes. Handle bound with fishskin and wire. Central shield engraved with a thistle. German blade in seventeenth-century style, but of eighteenth-century manufacture. Short ricasso with one fuller.
