-
A mantel balloon clock veneered in tortoise shell with fretted gilt panels to the sides lined with red silk and mounted with finely chased and gilt decoration with chased paw feet and surmounted by a gilt vase. The mounts are most likely the work of Matthew Boulton of the Soho Factory in Birmingham.
The eight day 3-train ¼-striking clock locking plate striking clock has a going barrel movement and recoil silk suspension escapement. The silvered dial - which may not be part of the original - has the 12 hours represented by Roman figures and 5 minute intervals in Arabic numerals and a pair of gilt metal pierced hands.
