A bronze and gilt bronze mantel clock inset into simulated cube stone plinth upon which is seated the youthful god, Pan, his pipes beside him all mounted on a rectangular plinth base to which is applied decoration pertaining to Pan, four scrolled feet. The original movement has an eight day locking plate striking clock with a going barrel movement and anchor recoil escapement. The glazed gilt dial has an elaborate bezel and is engine turned with the 12 hours in Roman numerals, blued steel moon hands. The horologer Claude Hémon was maître in 1770 and ran his workshop at the rue Saint-Martin from 1812 to 1820. His movements are known to have been used by Pierre Philippe Thomire.
