Wall hangings worked in satin or flat stitch in shaded wools on dark brown woollen ground. Consisting of variations of symmetrical design of scrolls and strapwork with grotesque masks and seated female figures bearing cornucopia filled with fruit. These embroideries are the work of professional embroiderers, probably of French origin and to designs by or after Daniel Marot. It is possible that they were commissioned and worked either in the Netherlands or in London. Throughout the eighteenth century, it is likely that these embroideries hung in Queen Mary's closet, Hampton Court Palace.
