'Daisy' Greville was a life-long friend of King Edward VII. She was once considered a possible wife for Prince Leopold but she in fact married Francis Greville, Lord Brooke (later Earl of Warwick) and the Prince was the best man at their wedding in 1881. She was beautiful, extrovert and had a number of affairs within the 'Marlborough House' set, including one with the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII; but by the 1890s she became involved in socialist causes and philanthropy, fundraising for education for women, housing, employment and living standards. She was also keen on gardening and created and enhanced the gardens at Warwick Castle and Easton Lodge. Her memoirs was published in 1929, entitled 'Life's Ebb and Flow' and some consider it to be an authentic account of Edwardian aristocratic society.
