Hariot was a campaigner for women's medical care and midwifery in India, raising funds to train women doctors and provide health care for Indian women. Her husband, Frederick Hamilton-Temple-Blackwood was Governor-General of Canada from 1871-9, and then worked in Russia and Constantinople, and finally becoming Viceroy of India from 1884-8. Hariot wrote a number of memoirs about her life in Canada, Russia and India. -
