Photograph of Prince Carl of Denmark (1872-1957) and Princess Maud (1869-1938), dressed for the State Opening of Parliaments, soon after the death of Queen Victoria. Both are standing against a painted studio background. Princess Maud is wearing a mourning veil and small tiara, in a black, tight-fitting dress, with sash and royal family insignia, a diamond choker necklace and two diamond 'ribbon brooches. Prince Carl is clean-shaven, in full dress naval uniform with many insignia including the Order of the Garter. Signed 'Harry and Charles, 1901'. Harry was the family name for Princess Maud. Prince Carl is better known for wearing a finely-groomed mustache but on this occasion he is clean-shaven. He became King of Norway in 1905.
