A white marble and gilt bronze mantel clock in the form of a stepped breakfronted platform supporting the dial which is in a shaped marble case on four pairs of gilt bronze pillars. The pillars are chased in their lower half with bulbous leaf motifs. In the centre of the arcading hangs a circular chased pendulum. The drum is crowned by an oval marble vase containg gilt bronze flowers and on either side hang gilt bronze floral cornucopia.
The eight day striking locking plate clock has a fusee movement and an anchor escapement. The white enamel dial has the 12 hours represented in Roman numerals and the minutes in arabic numerals and a pair of pierced gilt hands – second hand and date indicator removed. The clock originally contained a French movement, it now has a later replacement by Charles Frodsham.Provenance
