A Chinese porcelain punch bowl with rounded sides spreading to the rim. Painted on either side are the royal arms of Scotland with the royal crest bearing the motto 'IN DEFENCE' above the gold shield with a red lion surrounded by a double border of fleurs-de-lis. The shield is surrounded by the collar of the Order of the Thistle and is flanked by two crowned unicorns holding the Scottish royal banner and the flag of St Andrew. Below is the motto of the Order of the Thistle in the form 'NEMO ME IMPUNE LACESSET [sic]', below which in black is the inscription 'The Antient Royal Arms of Scotland'. In between on each side appear the star and badge of the Order of the Thistle. Inside in the centre painted in colours is a flower spray and below the rim, a spearhead border in black and gold.
The use of the star of the Order of the Thistle on this bowl and RCIN 26785 may mean they were presented to the Order. However it is also possible that they were made for the Jacobite clubs.
