This album of view of Bermuda was dedicated by the photographer to General Sir Frederick Edward Chapman who was born in 1815 in Demerara, British Guiana. He was educated at the Royal Military Academy in Woolwich and served with the British Army. In 1855 he was invested with a Companion of the Order of the Bath after participating in the Battle of the Alma and the Siege of Sevastopol during the Crimean War. In 1867, Chapman was appointed as Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Bermudas. He retired from the army in 1881.Provenance
