Prince Albert Victor was the eldest son of Prince Edward and Princess Alexandra of Wales, later King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. The Prince arrived in Bombay (now Mumbai) on 9 October 1889, to embark on a seven-month tour of southern India. The itinerary included visits to Hyderabad (where he was hosted by the Nizam of Hyderabad), Madras (now Chennai), Mysore (Mysuru), Lucknow, Bangalore (now Bengaluru), Agra and Travancore (also known as Thiruvithamkoor). During the trip, the Prince reviewed hundreds of troops, laid foundation stones and both gave and received addresses. By mid-March 1890, the Prince boarded SS Assam and left India for a five-day stay in Egypt before heading to Greece and finally London. -
