Panoramic photograph of the ancient fortress of Bala Hissar and Palace in Kabul, with two photographs joined together. The Gateway into the city is in centre, with city walls either side. Large hill in background. This was taken by the Bengal Sappers and Miners, an engineering arm of the Indian Army in c.1879 during the course of the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878-80).
